The Energy Consumer Policy branch is driving implementation of Victoria's Energy Fairness Plan - aimed at reducing the cost of energy for customers across the state, increasing transparency and competition in the market and making sure that companies that do the wrong thing face the consequences. The branch is responsible for ensuring that Victoria's energy policy puts consumers and affordability at the centre. It encompasses policy development related to vulnerable consumers, consumers living in embedded networks and the consumer service standards expected of Victoria's retailers and distribution businesses.

The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for providing high-quality policy research and advice on issues to support Victorian energy consumers, including vulnerable members of the community. The successful candidate will have strong critical thinking skills, capacity to identify and respond to consumer policy issues in a planned and strategic manner, analysing how policy issues collectively impact consumers, undertaking research and data analysis and gaining buy-in from stakeholders. 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience in Government processes and operations, particularly in public sector policy development and regulatory reform is desirable.
  • Understanding of electricity and gas retail markets and regulatory pricing as it relates to energy consumers is desired.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications such as in economics, public policy or an energy-related field.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 24 months.
