The ACCC is an independent statutory authority that administers the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other Acts.

The ACCC works to promote effective competition and fair trading in the market place to benefit consumers, business and the community, and efficiency in the delivery of certain infrastructure services.

Consumer and Fair Trading Division.

The Consumer and Fair Trading Division aims to protect the interests of consumers, and support fair trading in markets affecting consumers and small business. It does so by delivering compliance and enforcement outcomes under the Australian Consumer Law, which forms part of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Consistent with this aim the Division also has responsibility for the ACCC’s specialist agriculture and small business and industry codes functions.

About the role
The General Manager, Consumer and Fair Trading Enforcement, (Northern and Eastern) will be responsible for the overall leadership of one of the three specialist enforcement branches within the Consumer and Fair Trading Division. The General Manager will need to work closely with the Commission, Executive General Manager, Consumer and Fair Trading and other senior managers in relevant areas across the organisation.

The Branch has approximately 35 staff, primarily located in Darwin, Townsville, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra. The General Manager reports to the Executive General Manager, Consumer and Fair Trading. The General Manager also works closely with the Chair of the Enforcement Committee (EC) advising on the progress of enforcement cases.

What we're looking for
To be considered for this role, you will have proven your ability to lead geographically dispersed teams while fostering a collaborative, high performing and resilient culture. Substantial knowledge and demonstrated experience relevant to investigations, consumer and fair trading functions, preferably within a government and/or regulatory environment is essential. You will also excel working in complex environments and you will be forward thinking, self-motivated, strategic, resilient and adept at building relationships across a broad range of market bodies. You will have a strong focus on results and be adept at managing sensitive issues under significant pressure. Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields is required for this role. This opportunity is a non-ongoing opportunity for up to 18 months.
