About the Role

Responsible for the delivery of customer-focused category plans and range reviews for a number of departments, the Category Development Lead will drive continuous improvement whilst managing the development of a number of Category Development Analysts. 

Delivering a differentiated offer for our customers, and leveraging our data and insights to inform our category strategy and ranging decisions, the Category Development Lead will partner with our Category Managers and Merchandise Managers to provide recommendations on strategy and ranging. 
Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Identify key strategic priorities for categories in category plans and range reviews using quantitative and qualitative research 
  • Partner with Category Managers and Merchandise Managers to provide recommendations on strategy and ranging
  • Driving change with cross-functional squads on strategic growth areas to land a customer first outcome
  • Use analytical tools to drive insights; including category and customer segmentation, clustering, commercial investment calculations
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement and evolving category development process in line with the company’s strategic objectives

About You 

WIth a strong understanding of retail through experience within a Retailer, Supplier or as a Consultant with one of the leading Consultancy firms, you will bring to the role a track record in demonstrating stakeholder management and influencing skills, alongside strong analytical skills and a high attention to detail. 

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following qualities, skills and experience:

  • Ability to interpret data and make recommendations and derive actionable insights for short and long term strategies
  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance or related subject or equal professional experience - Expected
  • Experience in managing and developing others - Desirable
  • Knowledge of existing ranging capabilities in the retail sector - an advantage
  • Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting
  • Results-oriented mindset
  • Advanced Excel functions e.g. pivot tables, formulas and conditional formatting
  • Experience using agency tools for analysis e.g. Quantium, Nielsen, Mintel
  • Comfortable networking to build working relationships across Buying & MCV teams
