The opportunity

The role of the Financial Crime Advice Manager is to manage the day to day second-line elements of QBE’s Financial Crime Risk Management Standard: providing high quality advice, support and challenge to the business on all of the financial crime types covered in the Standard (fraud, anti-bribery & corruption, sanctions, AML/CTF and modern slavery).The role reports to the AUSPAC Manager – Financial Crime Advice and is part of the AUSPAC risk function.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Continued development of financial crime risk management strategies and uplifting awareness within the organisation to prevent all aspects of financial crime.
  • Providing advice and support with the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial crime compliance programs as per Financial Crime Management and Risk & Control Self-Assessment Standards.
  • Ensure regular communication with peers and stakeholders across QBE’s 3 lines of defence to ensure consistency, uplift in awareness of financial crime issues and obligations, and ensure effective incident resolution and issue management.
  • Planning and assistance with Financial Crime Risk reviews across the AUSPAC business units.
  • Embedding the sanctions compliance program across AUSPAC, and conducting due diligence and advice on referrals from Line 1 teams.
  • Provide general support and advice to AML/CTF Compliance Officers in the Pacific Islands, including reviewing suspicious activity and transaction concerns to determine whether reports are required to regulators.
  • Working with the AUSPAC Manager - Financial Crime Advice to provide regular financial crime insights to senior management and the board, including via the Financial Crime dashboard and other reporting as required.

Your story so far:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, such as law, intelligence or in any of the financial crime typologies.
  • Relevant professional qualifications from organisations such as ACAMS, Association of Certified Sanctions Specialists, Governance Institute of Australia, ANZIIF


  • Demonstrated experience in investigating/managing fraud and/or financial crime in a corporate environment
  • Qualifications in Investigations, Criminal Intelligence, Sanctions, AML/CTF.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders including senior executive teams
  • Proven ability to produce strong written product including drafting policy documentation

Preferred Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of how the general insurance industry can be impacted by financial crime.
  • An understanding of global sanctions regimes, including in the jurisdictions in which QBE does business.
  • An understanding of AML/CTF risks, controls, and legislation in the jurisdictions in which QBE does business.
  • Knowledge of risk, compliance, insurance and/or financial services industry, trends & influencing factors.
  • Broad understanding of fraud and financial crime identification, Investigation management and prevention frameworks.
  • A solid understanding of the insurance industry, criminal and legal frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment as it applies to financial crime.
