As part of the BT Group, and a key business activity of Westpac Life Insurance Services (WLIS) the Claims Department is responsible for assessing all Income Protection, Group Salary Continuance, TPD, Death and Trauma claims promptly and paying legitimate claims in a timely manner.

How will I help?

As part of the BT Group, and a key business activity of Westpac Life Insurance Services (WLIS) the Claims Department is responsible for assessing all Income Protection, Group Salary Continuance, TPD, Death and Trauma claims promptly and paying legitimate claims in a timely manner.

The role of the Claims Officer is to develop sound case management strategies in an effort to manage claims effectively, regardless of type, size or complexity. Assistance and support will be required in all facets of claims management from time to time as directed by the Senior Claims Consultant or Executive Consultant. The Claims Consultant is also expected to offer assistance in case management as requested by colleagues or Administration staff within their current capabilities and authority.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Write clear, concise and customer focused letters
  • Design technical letters with the targeted questions within medical or legal framework
  • Undertake phone calls confidently and adapt to each situation
  • Manage conflict or complaints from clients to maximise outcome
  • Remain customer focused at all times
  • Liaise with reinsurers for treaty or substandard reinsured claims
  • Visit clients in conjunction with a Senior Claims Consultant to survey satisfaction levels and monitor progress of claims.
  • Develop a strategy based on initial information received
  • Vary the strategy focus as conditions arise
  • Interpretation of medical, financial and investigative information
  • Instruct and manage investigations in relation to the overall strategy
  • Able to make clear and concise decisions within the Claims Consultant’s authority, based solely on the facts of the case.
  • Identify opportunities to provide health support services to support our customers return to optimal wellness Ensure service standards are maintained to maximise customer experience
  • Comply with company / industry practice and consistency guidelines
  • Offer support, assistance and respect to fellow team members
  • Participate, assist and where requested lead in process and procedure improvements, which benefit the whole team.
  • Maintains portfolio within expected Actuarial expectations
