Associate Director, Strategy and Advisory

  • Join a supportive and high performing team where you will play a key role in leading strategy, advisory and analysis for Investment NSW, a leading economic development agency of the NSW Government
  • We are recruiting for vacancies in our Sydney based team for a strategy lead to design and support execution of global trade, international investment attraction, and economic development strategies.
  • Candidates with proven experience in management consulting/ strategic advisory, organisational strategy, extensive research and critical analysis, preferable in a global/ multijurisdictional environment.


About Investment NSW

A new NSW Government agency to drive local and international investment and create jobs for NSW.

As a central agency, Investment NSW will drive all trade and investment attraction activities within the NSW Government, which will maximise economic benefits and jobs growth.

About The Job

As the Associate Director, Strategy and Advisory, you will be responsible for leading strategy, advisory and analysis to shape and inform Investment NSW’s approach to investment attraction, trade and economic development. You will deliver strategic advice in relation to organisational strategy, and Investment NSW’s services, partnerships and key initiatives to grow the NSW economy. To achieve this, you will work in collaboration with teams across the agency, and with other government departments and other stakeholders.

The Role Is Also Responsible For
  • Leading and supporting delivery of organisational strategy development, strategic advice on services and initiatives that Investment NSW can deliver to better support its clients and drive economic growth
  • Leading research, analysis and insights in relation to key sectors and sub-sectors of the economy, global markets and the opportunities and risks they present, and the impact of the agency’s services and interventions.
  • Prepare Ministerial briefings, reports, other documentation, and correspondence as required to support the Strategy and Performance Team.
  • Lead and manage project teams, internally and externally to deliver agreed projects on time and on budget.


The ideal candidate
  • Strategic thinker and leader, with experience driving organisational strategies and performance frameworks
  • Leads, provides clear direction, and coaches team members
  • Provide expert advice on a range of project related issues and strategies in relation to trade, investment attraction and economic development
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders, drives innovation, and solves problems


Essential Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Commerce, International Relations, relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in international investment attraction and/or international trade and/ or economic development strategy
  • Proven experience leading the delivery of strategic advice, developing strategy, and driving organisational change and innovation.
  • Proven end-to-end project management experience with the capacity to lead the delivery of projects to meet deadlines.
  • Extensive research and critical analysis experience in interpretation of data, identifying trends to provide strategic advice and implement opportunities for continuous improvements and change.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge and understanding to develop an understanding of the Government’s trade, investment and industry development policies and programs.


Desirable Requirements
  • 5 years of first or second tier consultancy experience
  • Knowledge of key NSW Government programs and services
  • SalesForce (CRM) knowledge or related technologies or applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant peak bodies and industry associations
