About the Role

The purpose of the role is to shape the long term direction of the Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) business and translate this direction into the specific integrated and aligned plans that unlock the value of this exceptional resource.

In this Principal Business Planning Perth based role, you will be dedicated to supporting the world class WAIO Asset. You will support us to develop and maintain best practice business planning practices with a thirst for continuous improvement. Working with asset and functional teams, you will develop life of asset and medium term plans for WAIO, establishing strong relationships with site operations and project teams. You will work within a function that spans the whole of WAIO, which makes this such a unique and exciting opportunity.

In this role you will:

  • Engage across all levels of the organisation to set and refresh the strategic imperatives;
  • Coordinate the corporate alignment planning process (CAP), including the Asset Opportunity Assessment, Life of Asset Plan and 5 Year Plan;
  • Develop and implement appropriate governance processes and documentation to ensure adequate review of assumptions, outcomes and recommendations; ensure Long Term Planning assumptions are robust, consistent and achievable;
  • Identify strategic opportunities that deliver long-term value for the business;
  • Validate the strategic direction and identify the key priorities for the horizons;
  • Support the development of business plans and the process of program integration;
  • Support the analysis of production, benchmarking and project data to identify opportunities for value optimisation; and
  • Challenge the status quo and identify opportunities to improve business outcomes and accelerate performance.

Skills and Other Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Commerce, Engineering or similar, and relevant Post-Graduate studies are beneficial.

With significant strategic planning experience or a passion to develop in this arena, you will demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to persuade and influence leaders through informal methods;
  • Ability to cope with multiple priorities in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to translate data to a broad stakeholder group;
  • Ability to coordinate and manage data from multiple sources;
  • Ability to apply integrative thinking to develop strategic advice, deliver briefings on complex issues and be alert to risks and opportunities;
  • Proven ability to build, grow and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders; and
  • Your diversity of thought and practical experience will be embraced and you will be empowered to make a real difference to our business.


You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - 'City Square'.
