The Role

This position assists the Executive Manager, Governance, Risk and Compliance to support the Board and focuses primarily on ensuring the Fund operates in a legal and ethical manner while meeting our business objectives within BUSSQ’s defined risk appetite statement. The role also is responsible for continuous improvement of and embedding a strong risk framework across the enterprise.

The Governance and Risk Manager’s role is to ensure that our Superannuation Fund follows all relevant Board polices and that these policies are in line with all laws, regulations, and standards. You will be responsible for overall risk controls and/or overall risk management arrangements of the Fund and support the Company Secretary including coordinating Board papers, managing Company records and other administrative and governance functions.

To succeed in this role, you should be a reliable professional who is not afraid to speak their mind and stand by their decisions. You should be familiar with risk management and our industry’s standards. You will also assist the Executive Manager, Governance, Risk & Compliance to support the Board to maintain a high level of Governance within the Fund.


Qualifications and experience

To be successful in this role you will possess the following qualifications and experience: 

  • RG 146
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field highly regarded;
  • Diploma / Advanced Diploma of Superannuation highly regarded;
  • Extensive experience (5 years +) in risk management roles (preferably in financial services);
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulation within the Financial Services industry (preferably superannuation) and proven ability to integrate into existing risk frameworks;
  • Knowledge of board and company governance processes and their importance in managing an insurance business;
  • Demonstrated experience managing people and delivering outstanding results through them;
  • Ability to manage and influence change and to provide practical guidance on implementation of new requirements, at a senior stakeholder level; 
  • Knowledge of superannuation business environments and the broader superannuation industry would be advantageous;
  • Strong experience in influencing and communication at all levels of an organisation; and
  • Exceptional writing, presentation and communications skills are a must.
