About the Job 

Reporting to the Head of Investment Strategy and Asset Allocation, this role is responsible for developing and maintaining a risk modelling framework for the oversight and construction of investment portfolios, ensuring active risk exposures are consistent with meeting return and regulatory risk objectives and providing insight, supported by research, to improve risk adjusted returns.

The main goal of the role is to provide timely investment and risk analysis and information on investment portfolios with success measured by the achievement of investment objectives for each member product option, including fee constraints.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the development of internal stochastic modelling capabilities for portfolio optimisation and the generation of appropriate risk metrics consistent with regulatory requirements
  • Establish a scenario and stress testing framework incorporating both historic and deterministic stress tests
  • Establish and maintain a liquidity framework ensuring Rest can withstand severe liquidity stress
  • Assist with the development and ongoing generation of capital market assumptions across asset classes for use in portfolio modelling
  • Develop a toolset and reporting template for identifying, aggregating and mapping active risk positions on a whole portfolio basis incorporating a range of factors such as geography, sector, style, duration, currency, ESG and liquidity
  • Work collaboratively with investment teams to provide insight, identify opportunities and correct underperformance within asset classes and managers
  • Analyse and assess investment performance and risk outcomes (both ex-post and ex-ante)

About You:

  • Deep knowledge and application of quantitative investment and portfolio construction approaches
  • Application of asset allocation optimisation techniques and use of quantitative risk modelling
  • 10+ years working in investment management, financial services or superannuation industry
  • Understanding of investment compliance and risk management frameworks as it relates to portfolio risks
  • Able to clearly communicate and form conclusions on portfolio positioning and risk
  • Degree in Finance / Economics or Actuarial studies
  • CFA, CAIA or similar industry qualifications desired
